How it works.
Your body clock reads the evening from the light that reaches your eyes, and blue light tells it that it is still day. The lenses filter 99% of light below 520 nm, so the light around you says evening, not midday, and you can still read, cook and watch TV.
- Blue light
- Short-wavelength light from screens, LED lamps and daylight. Your body clock reads it as daytime.
- Melanopsin
- A light sensor in the eye that does not form images; it measures how bright it is.
- Melatonin
- The hormone that signals night. It starts to rise about two hours before bedtime, and light suppresses it.
- 520 nm
- The lenses filter 99% of light below this wavelength, the blue and green part.
